A pale but flavoursome pink wine from NE Spain. Elegant, but slightly spiced Rosado wine, ideal with robust Summer salads.
Like many old world wineries Castiluzar started off as a co-operative in the 1940’s. In the early 1980’s they started to bottle their own wines rather than sell the grapes on to some of their illustrious neighbours. The 1990’s heralded an era of massive investment as the winery updated their production methods so they could maintain their bespoke quality wines but still deliver the volumes that consumers were asking for. Navarra has long build a reputation of making high quality, but affordable, rose wines and this is a tradition that Castiluzar has been keen to maintain. Through their growth of Tempranillo, Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay and Macebo grapes the winery is able to offer a number of different blends and styles.
The winery is based in the small village of Arroniz which is internationally famous for its archaeological remains. As a result of the history of the area as well as the importance of the future, the Castiluzar winery is very aware that they are merely custodians of the land and have been very innovative in their environmentally friendly growing techniques.
The wine making team is led by Santiago Garde who had previously spent fifteen years working in nearby Rioja. His skills have led to a unique style for the winery that looks to marry the traditions of Navarra and Rioja with the more modern New World techniques. The winery produces and excellent range of single varietal wines which offer excellent value for money whilst still maintaining the heritage of the region.
