Background

Umeshu is known in Japan as Japanese Plum Wine. Rather than wine, it's more of a liqueur. Think Sloe Gin - the plums are infused in a distilled alcohol. Our Shiraume Umeshu is a premium grade based on a fine ginjo sake rather than a cheap distilled alcohol.

Making and serving

Using premium Ginjo Sake made from Yamada Nishiki rice, blended harmoniously with the fruity flavour of ume plums, which have been marinated for six months and then left to age another two years, this is a great plum liqueur which can be served over ice, or, blended with our Nikka from the Barrel Japanese Whiskey to make a stunning cocktail.

Food Match

Great with sushi and California rolls, or even tempura, but ideal with bakewell tart, or exotic fruit salads. Sloe Gin and  Amaretto fans will love this too.
